Ryder Bunzl
Truck rental and contract hire specialist, Ryder, has delivered its first leased electric truck.
The 10 tonne Smith Newton truck is now in operation with Bunzl, the distribution and outsourcing group. It is deployed in Bunzl's catering and hospitality sector, working in the central London area.
The Smith Newton is designed specifically for the rigours of stop-start urban work. Based at Bunzl's Charlton branch, this first truck will have a maximum range of around 80 miles. Earlier trials with a demonstrator Newton proved that this was more than ample - the truck could travel its normal delivery routes around the capital for up to three days before the batteries needed a recharge.
“As a large fleet operator, Bunzl is taking serious measures to reduce its carbon footprint, of which more than 70% is currently generated by diesel-powered vehicles.
We've focused on electric motive power units, because this form of power is sustainable and the emissions from the vehicle are zero."
”Max Harris, Bunzl's Operations & Field Sales Director
Bunzl has a long term drive to reduce CO2 emissions. The company is assessing the Smith Newton after trialling and rejecting other alternative fuel technologies.
